Melissa was Southern Africa's 2014 exchange student that visited Australia in May 2014.
Melissa van der Burg was nominated by the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens during her internship as Kirstenbosch Scholar. She completed her internship in December 2014 and is currently doing her Btech: Horticulture at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
Every fifth year Australia and New Zealand has a joint IPPS conference and Melissa’s exchange coincided with this timing arrangement. She spent her time abroad learning mostly about the plants, nurseries and the horticultural procedures of New Zealand. The talk gives an overview of her trip to Australia and New Zealand; from working at Hamilton Gardens in Auckland, NZ to attending the IPPS conference in Wellington, NZ and visiting numerous nurseries and botanical gardens.
